• MCT Positions Coming Soon
    Posted On: Dec 27, 2022

As noted in a previous edition, pre-testing for MCT positions began in September, pending final approval of the MCT Agreement.  That Agreement has now been finalized and positions will begin being posted by the Carrier very soon in the areas they are needed.  It is important to note, these positions will constitute a new classification under Rule 2.  While the complete agreement can be found on under the contracts tab on this website, the following are some of the highlights of the positions.

The MCT positions will begin as provisional assignments until the incumbent successfully completes a proficiency test, which must occur within the first 180 days.  Once successfully completed, the assignment will become permanent.  In the event an incumbent fails to successfully complete the proficiency test, he/she will have the same rights as exist under Rule 35 for temporary positions.  Once qualified on the position, he/she remains qualified indefinitely, regardless of subsequent position assignments.

The MCT positions are mobile assignments.  This means they will be afforded all the allowances under both Rule 46h and Rule 48e. It also means that they can be utilized to work on any district, with certain restrictions that are spelled out in the Agreement.

These are hourly positions with a current rate of pay of $51.33 per hour, subject to future general wage increases.  Accordingly, there will be no protect day requirement or additional protect day compensation.  Holidays are also handled in accordance with existing rules governing holidays for hourly rated employees.

MCT positions will work either a 4/3 or 8/6 schedule, with an exception for certain training periods.  While working on their home district, MCTs will receive travel time to/from their residence at the beginning and ending of the work week.  Travel time will be limited 50% of the time spent traveling.

Vacation days, personal leave days, bereavement leave days, holidays, etc. will be allotted as 10-hour days.  These are just some of the highlights of the new positions.  For more details, review the complete agreement on our website and be prepared for vacant positions to be posted in your district very soon.
