For the first time in our history, the BRS used a third-party electronic balloting platform to conduct our National Agreement ratification balloting. Our hope was that streamlining the process would result in a better voter turnout than what we have historically experienced. Balloting closed on September 27th, and we can now report the results are final. Sixty-five percent (65%) of BNSF members returned a ballot, compared to 59.5% for the other roads under National handling. A total of 2131 votes were cast nationwide, with 1127 “no” votes and 1004 “yes” votes. Therefore, the ratification ballot failed by a margin of 53% - 47%. Accordingly, we will now return to the bargaining table with a reinforced message that Signalmen deserve more. Updates on the bargaining process and next steps will be forthcoming. Since many of our updates will likely be disseminated via email, please ensure your local has a valid email address on file for you.
