We have seen a very profound trend in the claims filed on the CPKC in the last few years and the first quarter of 2026 emphasizes that trend.  On average, 10.8 claims per year were filed regarding agreements under the former KCS properties during the 10-year period from 2014-2023.  We saw that number double to 20 claims filed in 2024, followed by another doubling to 42 claims in 2025.  Thus far in 2026, with the first quarter not yet complete as of this writing, there have been 29 claims filed on the CPKC.   

What began as a subtle upward trend we attributed to the CP’s takeover of the KCS has blossomed into a much broader concern.  We commend our local chairmen from Local 185 for diligently policing the agreement by filing claims.  Similarly, we commend all the members of Local 185 for providing them with the information necessary to successfully do so.  It is critical we protect the rights within our agreements if we ever expect to improve them. This local is providing a great example of how to do just that.
